I perform a lot of close-up and work in many of the places around were I live. I feel Restaurant/Bar magic needs to be well worked out and you need to know it inside and out. Luke and Mark make several clear points that are right on the money. I always walk up to a table and ask ” Do you mind if I show you something interesting”? Based on the reaction in the first 3 seconds will tell you how to continue. If it’s a good reaction I continue with:
“My grandfather was a magician and when he passed away he left me a box of his “magic trinkets” . I then proceed with what ever effect I’m starting with.
If it’s warm I say ” Well you can be the Magician and snap your fingers and I’ll disappear!” That’s a great ice breaker,and it works most of the time. If not you’ll get a good laugh.
If you get a “get the hell out of here look” keep on walking.

I like the new Look of the Studio – but the “magic mirror” in the back misdirekts me every now and then when I see some crew member movements
